Spring is here in AZ and Easter is on it’s way!
It’s this time of year when I was a kid that my mom went to the local store to ask for a washer or dryer box to take home. This would be the new home for our new chicks until they were old enough to be in the chicken yard.
Mom would set it up with a heat lamp, place sawdust (now wood shavings) in the bottom with special feeder and watering can for these new little chicks.
I remember being so excited each year to see all the pretty colored chicks come home and the excited we got out of watching them and hearing all those peeps. I didn’t know until recently they peep so their mother remembers their tones. They were all just such a pretty sight of blue, pink and yellow chicks peeping away. We watched that box like a hawk, looking for any sign of a rooster to emerge or for them to start picking on a weakling that would have to be separated until they were older. Growing up on a small farm really was a blessing and I do wish everyone could have experienced this. I now go to my local Pet Store and first thing I do is look in the box of chicks by the door and reminisce over the sight of them. My small town the Pet Store is really a feed and tack store.
So below today is my Easter Card remembering all those little peeps and how we welcomed spring every year to see these little critter.
